Can install old software under Windows 8 64-bit?

I have an old vector drawing programme called Greenstreet Draw 4 that I've used for years under Windows XP, Vista and 7 (all 32-bit). Greenstreet's website no longer exists, so I think the company may have disappeared.

This morning I twice tried to install Draw 4 on my new Windows 8 64-bit laptop. The InstallShield Wizard started up and the progress bar got about halfway across, then stopped. After that nothing happened, despite my waiting about 15 minutes.

Task Manager did not report "not responding", but the installer just stopped.

Does anyone have any suggestions for getting this program to install and run, please? It's old, but it's very useful and I have a lot of drawing files in its native format that I'd like to be able to open.

Try wow64 here for running your program under windows 64 bit

Sometimes, there's a dialogue box hiding behind the main install window waiting for you input something. You should also check the Task Bar and see if there's a flashing icon there trying to grab your attention.

If that doesn't help then try running the setup in "Compatibility Mode":

Locate the installation's setup file, right-click it and choose "Properties". Click the "Compatibility" tab, tick the "Run this program in compatibility mode for" option, select an OS that's known to work with this software, then click OK and try the installation again.

Thanks very much for those useful answers. I'll give it a try in Compatibility Mode and if that doesn't work I'll have a go with Wow64.

Jock1e - as I mentioned above, the company seems to be uncontactable.
