Wiping hard drive

I am selling my pc and I need the best way to completely wipe my hard so history, bank details etc cant be got back. Whats the best way or free program to do this please?

In onthelimit1 list there is ERASER - I have used this in the past and find it excellent.

You will never 'clean' an hard drive completely, unless you totally destroy it. Forensics have moved on, and there is very little that cannot be obtained from an hard drive if the right equipment and team is used.
Eraser works well, and there are others that 'supposedly' exceed government levels of security, but they come at a price.
