Hotmail Instant Serious Security Takeover

My friends account was hacked the other day and we're looking for help and guidance please.

She was using her messenger to whom she thought was a family member across the globe. Next thing it turns out to be some weirdo and she cant shut down the window except by performing a hard shutdown on the computer!

Has anyone else experienced this and what was your experience?

sorry, didn't mean to tick resolve button. personally dont think that its malware but have told her to install scanning software to see if this flags anything.
