firefox keeps failing

it has worked fine for some time and just lately the problem i have with it is thatit will work ok on the day of use but when i come to try it later in the day or the next it fails to open, i have un-installed and re installed several times with the same effect prevailing. ie when installed works fine try next day and it will not open. have run several scans with no effect.

IE 8 Xp pro SP3 sygate firewall avg anti virus

I see that you are running FF18 - is this the beta version? Were you running 17.1 before you downloaded this version?

If you already have a firewall running, go into services and disable windows firewall and make sure you stop running while in there.

additionally i keep getting a message about a script running which could make machine faulty and would i like to disable it?

Try.Tools.Web developer.Error console and that should show you your most recent problems.

Just wondering if it could be a Java problem.Have you got the most recent update and have you deleted all of the old ones.

Lastly have you downloaded Adblock Plus and tried that.it should open the pages quicker and maybe stop the errors that you are getting.

Only a guess with the last part but worth a try I suppose.

Did you look at the .ini files - article here.

Have you checked to see if any system files are the problem -

start - accessories - command prompt

type in

sfc/scannow

there is a space between the / and the s

Have you thought about restoring your PC back to a point when it was working ok?

You may have to do a 'clean install' of firefox as uninstalling and reinstalling leaves your profile in place and you need to completely remove everything if you are still having problems. If you need your bookmarks back them up first and you can re-import them.
