Video card too much for my CPU?

Resolved

My curremt video card - ATI 5800 series - is showing signs of failure and I want to upgrade this to a new Radeon HD 7870. Would I need to upgrade my Intel I7 930 CPU as well?

My specs are: OS is Windows7 64bit with SP1 and 12GB of Ballistix Technical memory on a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R motherboard. The CPU is running at a standard 2.80GHz. The PSU is 600 watt. Thanks for any help with this query. TC.

Short answer is no. Although your PSU is OK the 7870 is quite a power hungry GPU, here is a review.

Thanks, Chronos the 2nd, for that very informative and interesting link; therein lies a wealth of information.

I will not be doing any overclocking with the card so hopefully my PSU and CPU will both cope OK. We will soon see.

Thanks again, TC.
