I have a Dell530 Inspiron which came with Winbdows Vista. I upgraded to Windows 7. I am pretty certain I have a virus and wanted to return to factory settings but this option is not now available. I have disc that came with the machine and I made a repair disc for Windows 7. Can I use either of these to format my computer?

Put the disc in, start and set bios to boot from dvd drive - you will then get the option to format during the initial part of the installation.

As you said on page one "Also D drive on computer where the backup files are stored shows almont full on computer but when I click on it it says the folder is empty"

it sounds to me more like W7 is doing backups and the files are hidden. What is it that makes you think you have a virus?

to see the hidden files you have to unhide them. ClickHere

a) Open the folder location and click Organize.

b) Click Folder and search options.

c) Click the View tab and find Hidden files and folders from the list.

d) Select Show hidden files, folders and drives and click OK. You should now see your hidden files.

As a side note to reply to your question bottom of page 2: No you cannot rightclick and choose format C: You would be deleting your own instructions..... anyway Windows won't let you do that.

I do not see any need to purchase a new copy of W7. You can do a full install from the Upgrade DVD.

I suggest you have a look at your settings for W7 backup. Here are a couple of guides with screenshots of what to look for. How to Geek and also neowin.net
