Hi,
I would like to transfer my camcorder recorder to DVD using Windows Movie Maker. I have worked out how to upload, edit and add titles to my recording but am struggling to (a) remove the original audio and replace it with music without still hearing the original audio (which is what is happening at the moment) and(b) I would like to then burn it to DVD-R but I understand I cannot do this through Windows Movie Maker itself, but am not sure which program I should use as Nero doesn't recognise the format it has saved the recording in. Any advice or guidance on this program would be much appreciated. Many thanks. Kim

Having had a think about this I wonder if it is the DVDFlick install. Maybe you should uninstall it, then restart pc, and see if Windows Explorer works okay then.
If it does then re download DVDFlick and install it again and see what happens.
Something is causing Windows Explorer to have problems. It may not be related to DVDFlick and may be one of the updates, it will be a trial and error to find out what fixes it.
Does it have a problem and need to close when you are exploring any other folders?
DrWatson is attempting to analyse an xp op sys crash so don't worry about that too much creating a report to send to microsoft. I wouldn't bother sending any reports, MS won't do anything about them.

Hi,
No I haven't run the sfc/scan now as I was unable to locate my XP disc, but now I have found it.
The only folder I seem to have a problem with is "my videoes" and, would you believe, the new folder my nephew created last night which opened fine both last night and this morning is also closing down and showing the same message, so it's all rather odd.
I think I will uninstall DVDflick now and restart the pc as you suggest, then see how it works then. If it still crashes I will try the restore point and if there is still a problem with try the scan. I will try the easier things first just in case it is a simple problem.
I will let you know how it goes and once again, many thanks for all your advice.

At last I have the Movie Maker and DVDFlick programmes operating properly and I'm making good progress on my project.
I do have another question which you might be able to advise me on, in connection with my DVD project, could you please tell me if there is a way I can edit (shorten) mp3 recordings to add to my DVD as some tracks are longer than required and the music continues to play after the film part has finished? I would be most grateful if you could assist with this query and then hopefully I can finalise this project completely.
Many thanks in advance.

Glad you got it sorted and are getting it near completion :)
You trim or extend the playing time of the music in the same way as you do the clips you have added. Play the project in WMovieMaker and listen to the music, when you get to a suitable place in the music to finish it, click on pause so you know where the place is and then drag the end of the music track back to that point. You can do the same at the beginning of the track so that the music will start when you want it to.
By rightclicking on the music track you can choose to 'Fade In' the music, and also to 'Fade Out' so it ends nicely without suddenly stopping at full volume.
You can trim the music then reposition (hold down left mouse button and drag) the whole trimmed music track to anywhere along the storyline. It doesn't have to be same length as the picture clips.

I have been making good progress with my DVD project but trimming down the MP3 clips is proving difficult as the WMM programme doesn't seem to want to allow me to drag the end of the music clip back to where I want it, and intermittently keeps freezing. I have been uploading short, 2-8 minute clips in order to add and edit the relevant music for each part of the DVD, but this is becoming frustrating. I doubt there is an alternative way of doing the music editing, but thought I would ask anyway as you have been so helpful.
Once again, thank you for any advice.

Click on the 'Audio/Music' track so that it is selected. There should now be a little black triangle arrow at the beginning of track and at the end of the track. Put your mouse cursor on one of them until it turns into a two headed red arrow then hold down left mouse button and drag it sideways to where you want.
To move the whole track, put mouse cursor in middle of track until it turns into a hand and then hold down left mouse button and drag.
I can only think that if it appears to freeze on you, it is busy trying to process the moves - unless you are also having other problems with your pc?

I have been trying to trim the music exactly like you have said but once it freezes that's it, it just won't do anything. This is becoming very frustrating as you can imagine, especially when it was working so well and I was making such progress, so perhaps I will get my main PC checked out as there could be something that is causing it to freeze.
In the meantime, is Windows Movie Maker in Windows 7 and, if so, will DVDflick work with Windows 7 too please? I thought I would try using the laptop for this project instead and perhaps it will work better.
Again, many thanks for your assistance. Hopefully I will get it all trimmed, edited and finished sometime soon!

I think there is a cut down version of Movie Maker in Live Essentials for W7 but haven't used it. From what I've read it doesn't have as quite as many features as the XP or Vista version.
Sorry you are getting the freezing problem but I don't know what's causing that.
