Your title says it all - as compumac has said running AVG and Avast together will seriously slow down your system. Pick one or the other.

Even if you aren't using both together two installed on the same machine will cause problems and you need the correct removal tool to make sure they are fully removed before installing another.

It doesn't even need to be two Anti-Virus programs to cause the slowdown. I noticed the dramatic difference in download speed between my PC with Avast and my Mac with no Anti-Virus installed. Since changing to Microsoft Security Essentials in the PC, I have the full speed I expect from my ISP (Virgin cable).

This is an interesting Auto Speed Tester that you can leave running and it automatically checks Upload, Download, Ping at pre-set intervals.

MGMCC THANKS M8 ILL GIVE THAT A TRY AFTER THIS NEXT FORMAT I DONT HAVE AN ANTIVIRUS INSTALLED JUST NOW AND NOT ANY BETTER SO MITE AS WELL WIPE IT ITS A REAL SHAME COZ AVG AND AVAST WERE ALWAYS GOOD WE ANTIVIRUSES BETTER THAN MCAFEE OR NORTON ANYWAY SO I HOPE Microsoft Security Essentials WORKS FOR ME COZ ITS REALLY STARTING TO FRY MY BRAIN DOES Microsoft Security Essentials INCLUDE A FIREWALL OR ARE U USING WINDOWS FIREWALL? CHEERS AGAIN M8

AS FOR FRUIT BAT CAN YOU NOT TELL FROM THE OTHER POSTS THAT I MEANT AVG OR AVAST INSTALLED ONE AT A TIME NOT BOTH INSTALLED AT THE SAME TIME IF I WAS STUPID ENOUGH TO HAVE TWO ANTIVIRUSES INSTALLED AT THE SAME TIME I WOULD BE AS DUMB AS YOU FOR ASKING SUCH A STUPID QUESTION

There is no need to shout or be abusive..it was not a stupid question anyway that Fruit Bat raised, it was a perfectly justified observation.
