avg and avast seem to be affecting my broadband speed

ok so i'm hoping someone hear can shed some light on this one for me coz i'm stumped so iv got 100meg fibre optic broadband and i noticed my speed results kept hitting only 20 meg so i formated my system re installed and done a speed check as soon as it was done and got 105meg then i installed avg and syagte bit torrent the usual stuff after the reboot and it dropped to 20meg again so after sevrial reboots the same thing every time the min i put avg or avast or sygate in my system speed would drop so i got another system out the closet rebooted it same thing happens now i'm running my system with windoes firewall and i need to install avg every few days to scan the take it back out again but even with it out again its still only sitting at 40meg the only time i can get 100meg is just after a reboot and if i dont install any firewall or anti virus as soon as i do it drops now surely i must be missing something here a simple soloution coz avg and avast are great anti virus software so surely this must be somethign els

Your title says it all - as compumac has said running AVG and Avast together will seriously slow down your system. Pick one or the other.

i would never use two at the same time always one at a time but same probs with both of them

Even if you aren't using both together two installed on the same machine will cause problems and you need the correct removal tool to make sure they are fully removed before installing another.

It doesn't even need to be two Anti-Virus programs to cause the slowdown. I noticed the dramatic difference in download speed between my PC with Avast and my Mac with no Anti-Virus installed. Since changing to Microsoft Security Essentials in the PC, I have the full speed I expect from my ISP (Virgin cable).
This is an interesting Auto Speed Tester that you can leave running and it automatically checks Upload, Download, Ping at pre-set intervals.

MGMCC THANKS M8 ILL GIVE THAT A TRY AFTER THIS NEXT FORMAT I DONT HAVE AN ANTIVIRUS INSTALLED JUST NOW AND NOT ANY BETTER SO MITE AS WELL WIPE IT ITS A REAL SHAME COZ AVG AND AVAST WERE ALWAYS GOOD WE ANTIVIRUSES BETTER THAN MCAFEE OR NORTON ANYWAY SO I HOPE Microsoft Security Essentials WORKS FOR ME COZ ITS REALLY STARTING TO FRY MY BRAIN DOES Microsoft Security Essentials INCLUDE A FIREWALL OR ARE U USING WINDOWS FIREWALL? CHEERS AGAIN M8
AS FOR FRUIT BAT CAN YOU NOT TELL FROM THE OTHER POSTS THAT I MEANT AVG OR AVAST INSTALLED ONE AT A TIME NOT BOTH INSTALLED AT THE SAME TIME IF I WAS STUPID ENOUGH TO HAVE TWO ANTIVIRUSES INSTALLED AT THE SAME TIME I WOULD BE AS DUMB AS YOU FOR ASKING SUCH A STUPID QUESTION

There is no need to shout or be abusive..it was not a stupid question anyway that Fruit Bat raised, it was a perfectly justified observation.
