Hp deskjet 3822 printer problem

The printer is indicating a problem with the black ink cartridge (No. 15). The cartridge is a new original. My question is relating to the compartment in the printer. I have tried cleaning contacts.
The color compartment (No. 78) has a spring loaded bar between the copper pins. This is compressed when the ink cartridge is inserted. There is no such bar on the black ink side. Should there be?
If anyone has a deskjet printer can you confirm if there is a spring loaded bar on the black ink side.
I tried ringing hp but gave up.
Thanks.

Pages 51-53 describes replacement but I can't see any mention of a "spring loaded bar" that you mention.

Not sure that it should have a spring but this support article indicates that it probably should have.
