Sd card - format without losing pics.

I have loads of photos on a Sandisk extreme class 10 sd card. I formatted it in a new camera & it's been fine, looked at pics via usb reader many times. Have new pics I've quickly checked once, but now pc, camera & lap top saying I need to format the card? Hit cancel as I'm sure I've read this will delete all the photos. Not good with technology - I just about upload them for printing, so please, any help & advice in idiot proof language. Thanks in advance, Lottie.
