PS...They have opened Skype by clicking on the APP ! Is this the problem and is there a desktop version they should be accessing and if so, where is it ? Sorry to be ignorant but I am not familiar with Win 8.

PS..Secret-Squirrel..did the Desktop version clash with the App version or is the system happy with both. I take it you just deleted the shortcut to the App rather than delete the actual program file.

They shouldn't clash, and I certainly didn't notice any problems in the short time I was dealing with this issue. Just make sure your neighbours are signed out of the the unwanted Skype app before you right-click on the tile and choose "Unpin from Start". However, a better option for your neighbours may be to right-click on it and instead choose "Uninstall" and that'll leave them with the just the Desktop version.
