Important .docx file won't open. Corrupt.

Hi all. Posting on behalf of a good friend who has been working on a nursing project. She has written 3000 words and they were transferring the file between 2 laptops I believe via a USB stick. The file will now not open and I have also tried with no joy. As you can imagine she is mightily distressed!

I gather they were working on XP machines using Word 2007. I have Googled about quite a bit and not come up with anything to help so far. Can anyone here try to open and recover the data please?

I have tried renaming it to a .zip file and it still won't open. I have just been trying to open it with Openoffice and no joy with that either.

I'm in the office so any help on this would be gratefully appreciated.

Thank you,

Nick

" I guess they navigate to the stick on the pc and right click for the disk check?"

Here you go:

Double-click My Computer, and then right-click the disk that you want to check.

Click Properties, and then click the "Tools" tab.

Select the Automatically fix file system errors check box, and then click Start.

I thought was before the docx regime and a file convertor from ms was required to read docx files.

tried renaming to doc to try and open?

davegeeit, just joined and his/her first post recommends what is considered rogue/scam software (WOT report).

McAFee site advisor says: recoveryfix.com

Yellow Verdict: In our tests, we found downloads on this site that some people consider adware, spyware or other potentially unwanted programs.

First check compatibility factor if file is not compatible, then open in openoffice otherwise you check your current backup.

Try to restore backup otherwise read this blog for more help http://nuctech.livejournal.com/646.html

Try installing the free TextMaker Viewer 2010 which will open many different types of files including .docx

Worth a try if nothing else has worked

nick_j007, have you tried to open the document in NotePad? This sometimes recovers documents, but without any formatting.

I think that it is about time that this thread was locked. If the OP hasn't fixed it after 2 months then I would be very surprised. It keeps being brought forward with people adding to it possibly without noticing the date.

davegeeit's post looks suspiciously like spam. Only posts so far have all been to software
