right click menu - open has disappeared from menu

Hi,I have windows xp service pack 3. Just recently open has disappeared from top of right click menu for SOME shortcuts but not others.(very confusing)Can this be rectified? Thank you.

yes Norton should be giving you ample protection so probably just a windows glitch which sfc should cure.

Had full scan Norton ---Nothing.Likewise Malwarebytes and superantispyware.

Did you download the .zip file, extract it and open it to run the URL File Association Fix (Restores default associations for URL - Internet shortcuts) that Fruit Bat /\0/\ posted yesterday? It is the third one from bottom http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm
