startup freezing after windows updates

I have a Lenovo all in one pc running W7. I found after updating windows using Windows automatic updater overnight, when I switched on the next day there were I think hundreds of files installed. Since then I have had trouble getting my pc to start.It froze. I had to restart it to get a session going. I have since deleted the updates and I am worried that this may not solve the problem.I have not retried to see if it works as previous tries failed. Everything was fine up to that point. Has anyone any idea how to get this problem solved

Safe mode, last good configuration, or system restore in normal mode if it opens.
