Windows XP 32 bit to 64 bit

Currently using Windows XP 32 bit. Would like to consider using XP 64 bit to enable more memory to be available for my i3 processor. Not keen to reinstall all of my programs and settings. Can this upgrade be carried out without all of the hard work? Advice would be appreciated.
