Adding 2nd. OS to my slave drive

I have windows 7 (recently added) in my computer. Unfortunately, some of the software I have bought in the past will not work with Win 7. I would like to reinstall my XP SP2 onto my slave drive as a bootable OS. I know it can be a fiddly thing when starting my PC but I have effectively lost a good numner of programmes which I use reasonable often. Any help please? I know that setting up the boot sequence is not the total answer - I just don't want to reformat the wrong drive! Just to digress a little - where can I get the information on whoch CPU and Win 7 combination supports Virtual XP? I believe Microsoft will cease supporting XP SP3 in 2014.
