Formatted an external HDD and now computer keeps recognising it as Floppy Drive 'A' drive. Tried all things like uninstalling, then reinstalling with then states found new hardware installing driver, (floppy drive again).tried in CMOS cannot change drive letter. Any suggestions will be great fully received . The external is a MAXTOR Basics now owned by seagate tried their checking tool but cannot find HDD if installed as 'A' drive or before PC installs floppy driver.

Had a similar problem with a Maxtor hard drive in an enclosure recently. Disk could not be seen in Computer or Disk Management but finally was able to trace it through using Easeus Partition Master Home Edition (free) and was able then to retrieve disk although I had to lose the data on it.

Tried Easeus Partition Master could not find it, even enabled Floppy Drive again the PC found unknown item and loaded floppy drives again but could not find it in E.P.Manager. Even changed letter drive to (F) but in my computer came up with "Drive (F:)(A:)".

Looks like open up case now and look at drive.

Fruit Bat,

Power supply ok lights on continual bleeping for about thirty secs , took out of case connected up no movement from drive I understand from reading about the different bleeps it was the drive. Still got it going to take it apart later on.
