How to place Desktop Icons

I have just had my PC checked out at my local computer dealer as it was starting to run very slow and nothing I did improved it.It is now a lot better but the problem now is I have quite a few shortcuts on my desktop and I had them organised but now I seem unable to move them and cannot place any in the last third of the screen on the R/H side if I try they just jump back to where they were.Anyone any ideas.It is not a major problem but it would be easier for me to find them if they were organised better.

Right Click the desktop, then view and there are several items such as align to grid which you can select or deselect to get the result you want.
