All I can suggest is right click a blank area of your desktop and select personalize, select Desktop Background. In the window that opens click on the down arrow where it shows "picture location". If it's not too long ago the picture (history of) might still be showing there and you can select it. Make a note of its name.

Not sure if a system restore will put it back in place or not.

I think system restore is a tad over the top because of a background picture. It will be there somewhere unless of course it has been deleted.

Unfortunately if you selected a web page picture and selected that for your desktop background and your temp files have gone then you can't retrieve it, try buteman's suggestion and go back to the nearest time you can.

Should have added, you have one chance with a system restore. Once run and the photo is not available then it will be gone for good.

rdave13 - one chance - surely that depends on the origin of the image and its location.
What we don't know is whether this one of the background supplied pictures or one of OP's own.

Woolwell , absolutely. If from a temp folder( web based photo) it'll be gone anyway. If from the OP's own then it won't make any difference... maybe. Restore isn't one of Microsoft's greatest programs.
