BT Or Plusnet Anytime and Broadband

My Anytime and Broadband contrcat with BT expires in the next couple of months. I have been thinking of changing to Plusnet but have read some pretty dire reports of problems, arrogance and poor technical knowledge with Plusnet. They seem very good on pre-sales but afterwards....

My broadband seems to drop from an already miserable 3MB down to 1.9 every 6 months or so but BT do manage to fairly quickly and efficiently sort it and get it back up to 3MB. Our exchange is BT only and of course Plusnet is a subsidiary of BT but I do wonder if for the sake of an extra £10 month I would be better staying with the devil I know!

I would do some detective work first. Check to see if BT Infinity is coming to your area in the next year, as it is worth upgrading to if you can get it. Check you exchange to see if you have any LLU services available and check them against your phone number/postcode and see what seed they think they can supply.

SURVEY,

Like some others I am with Plusnet, but have only been with them for the last 18 months or so. Their service has been very good. For instance the week before last and the weekend I was down to 25 to 27 KB/s for some downloading I did. Normally it is about 110 to 120 KB/s, I wrote in and had a reply in a couple of days and was then up to about 90 KB/s. I only know that if I could get 3 MB/s I would be ecstatic!!

I should also mention that we get our telephone service from them and they are keen on customers taking out an extra, which we did. It means we paid £113 or so and got 12 months line rental covered. I know others do this but I haven't seen any cheaper! [ No doubt someone will write in and prove me wrong!! ].

All in all they seem worth the effort.

My speed should have been 5.775Mbps! At the moment it is 6.34Mbps.

This morning I convinced my sister to take up a special [offer / package] only available to certain BT customers who've never had Broadband with them before. (offer closes 30th September 2012).

It's £8.25 a month for a year then £14.00 after that. (18 month contract), plus monthly line rental £14.60 which will go up slightly in January 2013.

Included is a free Hub worth £99 [£6.95 delivery] which will be sent by post, and unlimited phone calls to UK landlines in the evenings and at weekends.

Average speed ~ 10mbps.

I arranged it by phone...she should be up-and-running by next Saturday.

I can also recommend Plusnet, been with them about 4 years, no problems.
