EXCEL 2007 Paste Special / transpose, But Retain Cell Reference

I want to convert data from rows to columns but retain a link to the original cell so that any changes to the original cell is reflected in the transposed table.
Can anyone suggest how I can Paste Special/transpose, but Retain Cell Referenced

Wonder if you should be using a formula instead of pasting.

This is rather cumbersome way to do it and there may be better ways.
Original data is in column A. In Column B1 insert formula =$A1 and drag copy that formula down column B so that B2 become =$A2, etc. Then copy column B and paste transpose that column. You can hide column B when finished.
