Panda Cloud unwanted popup

I am getting pop-ups from Panda Cloud that block access to URLs. They say that the site I am trying to access has malware. So it seems to be just an ad for Panda, saying I should download their widget thing. I can override it should I believe it and follow their direction to check at their site whether there IS malware on my target URL? Or is this just a marketing tool? I have never requested Panda in any shape or form. I have Eset Smart Security firewall/antivirus and Malwarebytes. Thanks for any advice...

Normally you would only get this if Panda Cloud Internet Protection is installed

Yes when I researched this, I saw that page. But I haven't downloaded anything from Panda, and the popup is headed: Panda Cloud Antivirus Safe Search Protection

In the popup box it says: "The Web page you are trying to access contains malware and exploits that could infect your computer. We advise you not to continue visiting this page.Your anti-virus or security product did not protect you from this malicious page. Protect yourself with Panda Cloud Anti-virus!" Then there is a Download button which implies I haven't downloaded it before and I can't find any Panda files on my computer. So that looks like an ad to me... If it is how can I stop it?

I could do the check on their website I guess.

ps Apparently I can't check if the site has malware without downloading Panda Cloud and registering! This is getting annoying. Even if I did want it, I am being harrassed here!

Have a scan with Malwarebytes it sounds as if something is redirecting you to panda

Also worth clearing your internet cache and see what happens

Thanks for your help Fruit Bat. I have done both of those things. I updated Malwarebytes, did a full scan and no malware was detected. This is all strange.

Any other ideas? It's still happening... Only some sites --Any site, from links within United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy to bit.ly.

OK tried the links from the site with no problems here so its looking like your machine.

The only other thing I can think of is you try the PaAnda removal tool to be absolutely certain there is no Panda stuff lurking on your machine uninstaller here

Thanks once again. I ran the uninstaller but it is still blocking e.g. bitly. I will try it in IE...But have to go away now. So it will be tomorrow. Thanks again

I have finally located a program: "Anti-phishing Domain advisor" from Visicom, powered by Panda Security. Oddly it only shows up when I go into Programs and Features on Control Panel, to uninstall. It is not there in the general program list from Start menu. Also it was apparently installed in July 2011, but this is the first time I have seen it. So I have something on my machine, but the pop-up is still saying I should download Panda. So it still seems like an advert to me. I've uninstalled it. Maybe Panda Cloud is a good idea, but this is not doing a good job selling it to me!

I had exactly the same symptoms as MrsGrey. Removed Anti-phishing Domain advisor using Control Panel and it seems to have cured the problem. I shall certainly not be buying or downloading anything from Visicom or Panda Security. I have contacted Panda Security with the following e-mail exchange (I am curious why parts of my e-mail were translated into Spanish.):

From: Customer Service To:
Sent: Thursday, November 29, 2012 10:58 AM Subject: FW: IRRITATING POP UP

Dear Robin,

We have had a few other cases regarding this message after we have spent time looking into this we have found that this will not be a prompt from Panda that you are receiving.

Please note there are some Fake antivirus packages, that use names similar to legitimate products, to try and trick people into thinking they are legitimate, rather than just being an infection that needs to be removed.

I would recommend you get i contact with whoever provides your antivirus product, as they should be able to help you remove this infection that has got passed your protection.

When visiting certain websites or viewing documents (for example http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/charities/guidance-notes/chapter2/model-dec-ff-persons.pdf) your pop-up appears, screenshot attached. This is VERY IRRITATING. PLEASE STOP IT. I shall certainly not be buying or downloading anything from you however good your product if this is indicative of your behaviour.

For information the example is a UK government website. I trust them far more than I trust you.
