I have just installed two ram modules of 2Gb each.Only 2Gb showing. Crucial have confirmed the memory is correct. Both modules work in port one correctly but neither will work in port 2. Using W7 64 bit O/S home premium. Latest bios installed.

Have you checked with the laptop makers support that your laptop is capable of using 2 X 2GB ?, and if so do they have a list of supported modules ?
Crucial and its likes are mostly about selling ram ?
The ram slot operabillity is easy to check by moving a single 2 GB stick between both
