Hi
I am about to swap a friend's PC for another PC which will have fresh install (hopefully) of Win XP
Can anyone advise me how to save/transfer the email messages so that they will be available on the new PC, please? I can save the email address book ok, can do screen dumps of the account settings, to help me set it up again but it's the messages themselves that I don't know how to save
Thanks for any advice
Cheers

So that you can see them - Windows Explorer, Tools, Folder Options, View, enable 'Show Hidden Files and Folders'
Browse to C:\Documents and Settings\AroundAgain\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities{Long-string-of-letters-&numbers}\Microsoft\Outlook Express, and there they are.
Copy them or the Outlook Express Folder that contains them to a usb flash drive or an external Hard drive and rename the folder (or put it into another one) something like 'Old email to Import' (just a name so it will be easy to find when you "Import mail from an OE6 store directory" into the Outlook Express on new pc)
Follow the instructions on ClickHere Insideoe.com

Obviously you have to create the new Identity account in the new OE before you can import the old email folders that will replace the empty ones in the new Identity account - but you knew that, it's me that's tired....

Thanks for pointing this out. I hadn't thought about it so might have come a cropper!!!
It will be next week before I get to the stage of needing this but I will get back with the outcome and, hopefully, to 'tick' as Solved
Thanks again

Try the easy transfer method, available as download http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows-xp/help/setup/move-files-and-settings-to-new-computer
Saving all files and settings to an external drive.or use a cable
It will not transfer programs only files and settings which can then be tansfered to new PC that will save creating new accounts

You'd have been okay with the default 'Main Identity' if you didn't want a different named account. It's impossible to Import unless you have an Outlook Express identity open as you need to click on File, Import, Messages, OE6, put dot in from oe6 store directory, click on ok, and browse to folder where you saved them.
