ASPIRE T630 PC - CMOS RESET - No Boot

Have been given the above machine with XP to look at. The CMOS batt had gone flat, and the PC wouldn't boot. Reset CMOS and put new batt in and settup the Date/Time in the BIOS - the F10 to save and exit. Error message 'unmountable boot volume'. Tried Recovery Consol with Chkdsk and Fixboot. Error 'drive inaccesible' or similar.
I'm guessing there's a setting in the BIOS that can't see the SATA HDD, but can't find it. Any thoughts, please?

Would help to know the mobo but you should be looking for IDE or AHCI setting in the BIOS as you have reset the BIOS this setting will have changed and XP does not natively sup[port SATA without installing the drivers.

To make sure the PC is set to boot from the SATA drive.
To do this make the first boot device SATA if the option is available.
If not you have two options: HD0 - If there are no IDE HDs present, or SCSI if you do plan on running an IDE HD as a secondary device.
If these options not available see above post from Chronus re AHCI

Sorry - the board is an Award GRS400M. Only one HDD fitted - a SATA.
Can't find any AHCI settings. First boot device is just 'HDD' (however, in Advanced Bios Features, Hard Disk Boot Priority says 'Press Enter'. When I do, 1. is SATA0 and 2 is Bootable Add-in Cards. Doesn't seem to be a way to choose the former). Any further help now you have the mobo number would be much appreciated!

Thanks Chronus - I'm sure it's something simple in the setup, but frustrating not to be able to find it!

Took the hard drive out to try in a caddy on my PC. Caused a BSOD, so looks as though the HDD is dead. Thanks for all the advice.
