I use Excel to keep a running account of my bank balance but when I click on the tick symbol at the top after doing a subtraction I get the following message.A small orange coloured box appears with this inside it !.When I hover the cursor over it this is the message I get. The formula in this cell refers to a range that has additional numbers adjacent to it.What does this message mean and how do I stop it.I use XPERROR

You could try

Tools > Options > Error Checking and turn off "Enable Background Error Checking".

I have just tried it on my 2007 excel

Go to the Microsoft button - top left Excel Options at the bottom Formulas on the left It is under error checking.

The instruction I gave was for a much earlier version of excel, sorry.
