2 seagate plug and play hard drives crashed not recognised

Hi both my own and my sons seagate plug and play hard drives have crashed.we both have windows 7 and i done the usual right click computer and manage disc management neither drive being seen.microsoft site just answering other people who have this question with another question,not much use,my drive is a 250 gig and my sons a 500 gig,any help please,i tried the usual plugging to other pcs and changing usb leads with no success,it smells of some sort of update?theres a lot of music and videos backed up on these drives so it is a major worry,thanks

Ask someone with an XP PC if you can connect the drives. If they are seen then change the drive letters to something like 'S' or 'T', some letters that are not usually used. Reconnect to your PC and see if they are recognised.

ok thanks r dave thats a good idea,i will also try them in my vista machine i will have to dig it out,i will post back if any luck,cheers

If you are going to carry on a bit, you could see if Partition Wizard Bootable CD (scroll down page for link) has any success in at least recognising the drives.

If it sees partitions,, you can explore them to prove data still there (for other utils to try to recover)

If it shows drives but Unallocated, it has a Partition Recovery Wizard.
