imac will not boot into os tiger?

Hi my friends 4 year old imac will not startup. When it is turned on it makes a sound then a white screen appears and a little folder with a flashing ? in it, Then it goes to 2 little faces alternating between the ? and 2 little faces and thats all it will do. The imac is as follows: Imac 20" Wisescreen (2008) Intel core 2 duo @2.66mhz 2 gig ddr2 800mhz memory 320 gig harddrive ati radion HD2600 graphics. Any idears peeps? Thanks
