Access to My docs and photos denied

A friend has just phone with the above problem, I haven't got the full details, but I suspect a virus. Any ideas?

Check the permissions of the file or of the folder the file is saved in. 

Right-click the file or folder, and then click Properties.

Click the Security tab.

Under Group or user names, click your name to see the permissions you have.

I went over to see my friend. clicking on the "My Docs" shortcut on desktop brings up 'Access Denied' even though all permission are ticked, however right clicking the shortcut and selecting "Open Folder Location allows my friend to open any/all docs. Had to leave it there as it was getting close to kick-off

Delete the short cut and make another
