what does it mean when an icon appears on the desktop-showing a page with the top right corner turned down? How do I rectify this.

right Click on photo - save

Means you have saved a file on the desktop. Quite a number of programs have their file icon with top right corner turned down. For example: Word doc, Foxit pdf, vbs.
