Alternative way of fixing dead laptops?

Solution to a problem on my other most favourite site.

"I wanted to update this in case anyone else had the same problem, plus I hate giving advice on cars and not getting feedback as to whether my advice was good or bad.....

Anyway, I managed to fix this problem a few minutes ago.

I removed the battery, plugged in the charger, fitted the battery whilst holding down the "on" button, tapped the battery and the laptop switched on .

It is now charging as normal and working fine.

Thanks to CRTHD, chrisjr, max99, and Sandgrownun for trying to help "

Is this a variation on 'discharging static' through the On/Off button?

Anyway, was news to me.

News to me also. I'm wondering that when the battery was "tapped" with the psu connected it might have 'cleaned' the battery terminals to the laptop?
