Lost my pet background on my desktop (XP Pro)

Needing a plain background for a minute or two I removed a home grown background.
When I wanted to return to as before, it was no longer listed. Worse still I can't find the original file!
Where are background files stored? I don't remember having trouble before, but then it is a long time since I wanted to change a picture. Meanwhile I'll continue to search.

Mine are stored in the My Pictures folder, I have a whole folder of wallpapers in there.

Thanks Chronus
Found the original and re-wallpapered with it. No panic any more, and now I know where Windows stores these things.
C:/Windows/Web/Wallpaper/
I have copied the source file to this folder so there is no link to be broken if I do it again some day!

I keep my custom ones in C:\Wallpapers. And still I forget.
Right click the file wherever they are and Set As Desktop Background.
