XP update whilst using Vista

I keep being reminded that I have an update for office XP service pack 3 which does not download because I'm using Vista. Is there a way of removing the XP element from my computer and if it can be done would this help speed up my computer?

Just run the updates manually and when that update shows double click it and a box will open underneath just tick do not show this update again and see if that helps.

You might be using Vista as your operating system but Office XP (as quoted by you) is a completely different beast.
Therefore this update may be perfectly valid.
Which Office version are you running?
