Problem with Netgear Dual Band

I purchased a Netgear Dual Band 300 Router a few months ago. It connects on the 5G band only. I also have a 300 single band USB adapter.
Just lately my internet connection after it as connected will lose its connection to the internet even though it says it is still connected. In otherwords the connection icon shows it is connected,but it is not.
I then have to shut down the PC and the Netgear & it will then reconnect,when I start again.
Is it possible that the problem could be caused because I am using a single band 300 USB adapter,and if I purchased a 300 Dual Band USB adapter would it make a difference.
