email alerts on start up

Hi again guys. Is there a way that I could be alerted of new emails in my 'IN' box from my hotmail? I have 3 separate accounts and it's quite time consuming to check all only to find there are no new emails. I'm thinking of an alert on start up or new mail icon on the desktop. Thanks in advance.

I use windows live messenger signed in to my primary account and set-up to start with Windows. Messenger starts, checks email, and notifies me of new emails near the notification area. Then I start WLM from start menu or from IE. WLM I set to appear off-line.

Last line confusing... so, Then I start Windows Live Mail from start menu or from IE's icon. Windows Live Messenger I set to appear off-line. Hope that clarifies it and helps a bit.
