My ibooks have disappeared on my ipad - running from a PC

I'm about to fly to the US and noticed with horror this morning most of my iBooks are greyed out on my iPad! Tried "download purchases" from iTunes, but it says they are all downloaded (hence the ghostlike front covers, I guess) - synching didn't work. Checking on the iPhone, it says I haven't purchased any books! They lie - only about 100!! Any idea how to get them back? I am sybching to a PC.

Have you synched them to your PC before? I assume so as you have so many. have a read on the link below and come back. Please look im your iTunes media folder in widows explorer. I an more familiar wit the iPod touch but it should be similar for an iPad.
