What will this power?

I found laying on the pavement a small item that obviously is designed to plug into a car cigar lighter.

It has two USB female sockets and the legend on the device reads inut 12v dc output 5v dc

So the question is what portable devices obtain power via USB? In my somewhat dated knowledge base all power into phones/sat navs and the like is accepted by the ubiquitous round socket.

In my car, I have a satnav, MP3 player, phone and DAB radio head - all powered via USB...

Ah an adaptor of course that is always the answer.

So if one day I acquire a device that needs 5v- I am sure Amazon will come up with the goods. Thank you CHAPS
