Card Reader Speed

I'm buying a new SD card for my new camera. Do I need to know what speed my card reader is before going for a class 10 card? If so, how can I test the read/write speed of my built-in reader?

See enter link description here

The rating is for the camera when taking video etc. The card reader is for tranferring the pics to comp and speeds will vary depending on the quality of the reader. A cheaper reader will work, only more slowly.
