HELP -I am 68yrs old and trying to replace the hard drive on my HP CQ60-214EM laptop. The one I have taken out is the model WD2500 BEVT-60ZCT1 P/N 497916-003 WD Scorpio blue -it says 250GB, 5VDC:0.55A, R/N: 701499 date 07 Jan 2009and it’s 5400rpm it measures 3 3/4 inches x 2 13/16 inches - I want to be sure of ordering the correct drive. Many thanks in anticipation of reply.

is it SATA look at these drives or IDE look at these drives or as an alternative look at SSD look herefaster access times and less battery usage but more expensive.

It does not have to be the exact same hard-drive model or even make. As long as its a 2.5 Sata hard-drive it will fit your laptop.if you are unsure do you not have a PC World or other computer shop you could pop into for some advice? You do realise that once you have the drive you need to reinstall your operating system etc which you may find is a bit more tricky than replacing the hard-drive?

I have to ask.... how do you know the hard drive is 'dead'?

What has made you come to that conclusion?
