Audio alerts

Recently, my XP computer has been sounding an audio alert called 'exclamation'. How can I find out what is causing this? The alert sounds every 1 minute or so. Obviously I could just switch it off but it would be better if I could clocate the source. Thank you

Look in event log to see if any faults are causing this. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427

Could it be your firewall or antivirus giving you warnings?

Thanks. I looked in the log and found that it was a program trying to log into an external pieceof equipment that was not connected. Many thanks Michael
