Can't save to CD from computer

I have a CD writer on my computer and also an external CD/DVD writer. I can copy a disk no problem but when I try to save files or pictures from the hard drive in either I get messages saying "Insert disk" or "drive unavailable"

Initially was in Internet Explorer and copying to the CD writer. But have tried Nero and still doesn't work

Are you using the same type and brand of disks that work okay when you copy a disk?

What are they? CD-r or CD-rw

You will have to give more details of the way that you are trying to burn your files or pictures.

If you insert a blank CD is it recognised as having been inserted?

What op sys are you using XP, Vista, W7?
