i have just been given an old packard bell desktop pc which, when i start up freezes on a boot screen saying press f2 for bios, f8 for hard disc etc. There is only a wireless keyboard which isnt responding when i press any function keys. is there any hope!

The pink screen is a bit worrying but get a ps/2 keyboard first. Then you could try tapping F11 or F12 at boot up to see if you can get the restore partition. It's a long time ago when I had one of these so I think F11 is the one I'd try first.

New BIOS battery (CR2032) for the motherboard might be handy too if you're buying bits and pieces.
