stretched lcd screen

My screen display has suddenly become stretched horizontally with everything,type etc enlarged. My task bar icons and quick launch icons are ok, but the windows programme menu start icon is now ovoid in shape. How do I revert to a normal looking screen display

You haven't said which op system you're using, W7? Vista? XP?

Screen settings are the same as W7 posted in the link above
