laptop stops booting

hey ho daughters laptop (advent modena m200) wont fully boot in any mode. has windows 7 OS. in normal or repair mode it gets to the wallpaper and sits there doing nothing at all, no activity from the harddrive. in safe mode I get the usual dos boot list then freezes on that list. booting from norton disc gets us a yellow wallpaper then no further. Is this the hard-disk do we think or something else? and how do I resolve it. ta in advance

Have you tried booting without the battery.Not sure if reseating the memory would make any difference.Anything else plugged into the the usb socket printer or the likes maybe remove it.

ta guys same problem without battery in opened up and reseated memory and checked all other connections.

cant really get past 'windows is loading files' to be able to log on

in safe mode the list gets to system 32/drivers/classpnp.sys and thats your lot

Try a repair again from the F8 menu.

DO you have a win 7 DVD? use that to get to the F8 menu and do a repair.
