black screen

My Acer laptop screen goes black after a while & although programs are still running I can only see them very very faintly. Rebooting returns things to normal, but after a while the black screen returns. Any ideas?

No. It's the screen inverter, backlight or loose/broken wire if lucky.

Or if you have a spare monitor plug your laptop into that and see if it works Ok with that.

If it does it would look like robinofloxley screen inverter would be the most likely culprit.
