Hello and good afternoon to you all. Im at a friends place and we need some urgent help pls
First problem, She has a Windows desktop pc, when its switched on it shows the following message:: The application failed to initialize properly(0x000005) click on ok to terminate the application.
Tried this also in safe mode, same message then i click on ok, then just get a black screen!!
2nd problem she also has a Eee pc notebook, and this seems to have also been infected with some kind of virus, when i log into it, it seems to be getting scanned and then it says its infected, and asking to buy now, but no name for the rogue software is showing!!
When i try in safe mode, NO PROGRAMS are showing, and the my computer icon is NOT showing as I was gonna use the portable version of super anti spyware on a usb flash drive to scan it, but as i cannot seem to access the usb drives on the notebook...any suggestions pls, my friend is a school teacher, and this needs to be sorted today, as she's back to teaching tomorroww,,,,,,pls help urgently!!!

Regarding the netbook try tapping F8 at boot and Restore to an earlier time, before infection.
Or making a Kaspersky Rescue CD on USB and giving a good boot and scan before then trying Malwarebytes and/or SAS.
Desktop. Does it boot into Windows or just hang after clicking OK.
Any idea of the application?
Make/Model and XP/Vista/7 for the system?

Desktop
One of the startup programs is failing or one of the services.
As its the same in Safemode try Last Known good configuration if still same you will need to do a repair install
Repair XP by install over the top of existing system
Boot the computer using the XP CD. You may need to change the boot order in the system BIOS so the CD boots before the hard drive. Check your system documentation for steps to access the BIOS and change the boot order.
When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen, you will see This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft Windows XP to run on your computer:
To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.
To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.
To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.
- Press Enter to start the Windows Setup.
To setup Windows XP now and Repair Install , press ENTER.
DO NOT choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R", (you Do Not want to load Recovery Console).
Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations.
Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press R to start the repair.
Setup will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot.
Do not press any key to boot from CD when the message appears.
Setup will continue as if it were doing a clean install, but your applications and settings will remain intact.
