I am unable to perform system restore with Kaspersky. Each time it says, "unable to complete, an antivirus programme is using a file. What do I have to turn off to get system restore to work?

Disable your Anti Virus temporarily and try a system restore again.

Do it in safe mode if disabling Kaspersky doesn't work.

It's probably doing a background scan. If you right click on the Kaspersky symbol in the system tray then you can pause protection and set a time during which you should be able to do the system restore.

The only time I managed to get system restore to work was when I disabled absolutely everything in Kaspersky.

This article is relevant and should help Kaspersky Support . If you click on 3 Disable the application's self defence then you can see what to do next.
