Excel Right-click context menu missing items

In Office 2010(upgrade from 2007) the "insert/edit/delete comments" options have just disappeared from the right-click menu in Excel. Short-cut Shift+F2 doesn't work and text boxes cannot be selected. In a cell already containing a comment only the delete option is available then nothing if that is used. Have tried re-booting to no avail. Tried to reinstall the original Office 2007 plus an associated upgrade to 2010 disk but it is looking for a 25 digit number which is not the one noted on a slip of paper in the box. There's no such number on the 2007 box label. Can anyone help, please?

Latest is that it has been fixed. The problem was with the view mode. It may have been in another mode rather than Normal, although it didn't appear to be. At any rate when I clicked on Normal the menu options returned.
