After my laptop has been in standby mode I have to switch it right off before I can use it again because the function of the keys is all over the place. What can I do to put this right?

You'll need to clarify what you mean by "the function of the keys is all over the place"...

Whatever the meaning of "keys is all over the place" the simplest answer may be to power the laptop down when you not using it instead of leaving it running in standby mode ?

Sorry what I mean about the keys is that when pressed none of them are what they should be eg F key becomes -, K key becomes 2 etc just very random.
