Can anyone tell me how, from a Sony Viao laptop running Win 7 home Premium, can I install XP on an ext USB hdd and boot into XP from that drive? I want to run msx flight sim and some older add-ons that only run on XP.

Thanks for the quick reply. Darn it! Any other ideas to solve it?

Posted before I finished. This site is a mess. Anyway I think your game will run fine on Windows 7. I use Windows 7 64BIT and I have 84 games installed going back years,a couple might have needed the odd tweak but overall no problems.
That also applies to most software so try it first.

Windows will not boot from an external drive
Not sure if this is strictly true, theoretically you can install XP to an external drive but the boot files (Ntldr NTDETECT.com and Boot.ini) need to be on the C: drive
